Broad research specialisms: Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria, Microplastics, Innovative WasteWater Treatments, NGS techniques to investigate the relation among the bacterial community, the pathobiome and the antibiotic resistome, Synechococcus.

Research interests: My research is aimed to study antibiotic resistant bacteria in the aquatic environment, with a special focus on microplastics, as vector of antibiotic resistance. I investigate the effect of innovative disinfection processes, for the treatment of wastewater, on putative pathogenic and antibiotic resistant bacteria. Moreover, I study the dynamics of Synechococcus in fresh and marine waters.

Research projects: My main research project evaluates novel tertiary processes for the treatment of wastewater, focusing on how they can affect the bacterial community composition and the antibiotic resistome, with the final aim of a wastewater reuse. The limnologic program characterizes the Synecococcus populations of Lake Maggiore.
