Research interests: My research interests range from mycology to mammalogy, trying to merge these competences into multidisciplinary projects.
As a mycologist, I’m specialized in the study of marine fungi, their taxonomy and physiology. I’m interested in deepening the knowledge of marine fungal enzymes and metabolites focusing on their bioactivity. I have also experience in plant pathology, with a main focus on rice blast disease (Pyricularia oryzae).
Concerning my study on bats, I’m dedicated to their conservation, through research and management of hibernating sites and maternal roosts in NW Italy, in collaboration with Dr. Elena Patriarca and Paolo Debernardi of the Stazione Teriologica Piemontese. I’ve applied my mycologist skills for the study of white-nose syndrome (WNS), a devastating disease caused by Pseudogymnoascus destructans, responsible for the deaths of millions of bats across the world. Together with my colleagues at CNR, I’m researching bat diet through metagenomic, and the threats posed by pesticides on their survival.
I’m also working on invasive/non-native species, with a focus on alien crayfish, trying to define managing strategies for their control, and raising awareness on the issue.
